Community & Service

Giving Back

Island Academy is an active part of the Community and participates in many events which allow both the students and the families of Island Academy to give back to the community. Examples of these include:

  • Supporting the Community: The Annual Christmas Shoebox appeal, collects over 40 shoeboxes for disadvantaged youth across the country.
  • Supporting the Community: Food collections for World Food Day are given to the elderly and the homeless
  • Environmental campaigns: Students participate in the many campaigns to keep Antigua clean through organised beach cleanups.
  • Regional disaster response: In past years, proceeds from student organised fundraisers have gone to Barbuda after the hurricanes of 2017 and Haiti following 202’s earthquake.
  • Seeking a better world: We support the Ex Servicemen’s Association in Antigua and Barbuda through poppy sales and an educational programme on world history and conflict resolution.

Creativity, Action, Service (CAS)

CAS is one of the three essential elements in every student’s IB Diploma Programme experience. It enables students to enhance their personal and interpersonal development while providing an important counterbalance to the academic pressure.

There are three strands of CAS:

  • Creativity: arts, and other experiences that involve creative thinking.
  • Action: physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle, complementing academic work elsewhere in the IB Diploma Programme.
  • Service: an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student and that respects the rights, dignity and autonomy of all those involved.
