Music

Music plays a huge role in Island Academy.

Primary students are taught different musical concepts through song and games, and the curriculum covers the concepts of beat and rhythm, pitch, melody, harmony, texture, form, timbre, expression, dynamics and tempo as well as listening, composition and historical context.

Within Secondary, Music is a compulsory subject and part of the curriculum for Grades 7-9 while it is an optional choice in Grades 10 and 11.

Music is a regular feature in our school assemblies which are attended by parents, with students frequently singing or playing the Marimbas, an African drum which we teach from Grade 3-9.  At Christmas we host a festival of song and music to celebrate the winter season and in the Spring we perform our annual Production where Music and Drama go hand in hand to create a show that is attended by the public.
