Parent Information Newsletter
February 18th, 2012
Dear Parents,
I hope that students enjoyed the day off from school yesterday and that
they were able to spend quality family time in addition to spending
some time doing academic work or reading a good book.
On Friday, I had the opportunity to spend an extended period of time
in Grade 3. I was incredibly impressed with the students and their various
abilities. The students were very enthusiastic about their work, which
they diligently completed. It was also delightful to see that the students
had developed a love of reading. After they completed the assigned work,
without any directions, the proceeded to take out books and read independently.
Job well done Grade 3.
Please be aware that next Friday, February 24th, is the monthly bake
sale. This one is sponsored by Kincaid/Yellow House. Remember to bring
in the goodies for the sale. This is an event that is enjoyed tremendously
by students.
Island Academy’s Annual Gala is scheduled for March 10th. This year’s
event is called, A Royal Affair and it is being held at Curtain Bluff
Resort and Spa. Please save the date because it is an event that you
will not want to miss. Tickets are available at school or you can contact
Jane Jack at 764-6477 or Bernadette Sherman at 464-5058 for more information.
Once again I ask that for parents to be aware of the start and end times
of the school day. The school day officially starts at 8:10 a.m. and
it is the expectation of the school that students should be on time
for the start of school. The school day ends at 2:50 p.m. and it is
disheartening to see that some students are not picked before 3:45 p.m.
This situation is not acceptable. It is particularly disturbing when
primary students are picked up this late. We will be asking individual
parents to come in to discuss this very serious matter.
Have a great weekend.
Ronan Matthew
