HOUSES
AT ISLAND ACADEMY
At Island Academy we have a traditional house system in place, which creates
a social fiber of smaller communities within the school, and gives students
a greater sense of belonging. It also forms the basis of our inter-house
competitions, and school sports day.
Students and staff members are allocated a House upon entering the school,
with siblings placed in the same Houses.
A merit-point system is in place for individual students to earn points
for their Houses on a daily basis, not only for academic achievement,
but also for particularly rewarding involvement in the school community,
encouraging positive behaviour, and showing kindness, honour and good
citizenship. House points are tallied up at the end of each week, and
the announcement of ‘House of the Month’ is announced in Assembly.
At both Primary and
Secondary levels we have House Captains, an honour bestowed by the Principal
and faculty. It is the House Captains’ responsibility to rally fellow
House members to always do their best for their house and school. They
may also plan a charity fund-raising event, or a school or local-community
clean up. Sports Day is an exciting inter-House competition, with everyone
competing for the ‘House Cup’ in various athletic disciplines
and fun games.
