AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Term 2

The following after-school activities will be offered for term 1. The school will not be providing transport for students to the activities, which are held off campus. We are currently looking for volunteers to help with this. Parents are responsible for PROMPT pickup of their child at the activity site. Many of the activities are limited in space, please register and pay early to guarantee a spot.


Classes begin the week of January 11th, 2010 and will run for 10 weeks. The week of March 12th is the final week classes. ALL FEES FOR AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ARE DUE BY Jan. 11th. IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID YOUR FEES BY THAT TIME, YOUR CHILD WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND THE CLASS. We are unable to give refunds to students dropping out mid-way through the term. Many classes have limited sizes and will be open on a first-pay basis. There is no “trying” out of classes. Some classes require a minimum number so please sign up early.

Young Embroiders Club - Tuesday 3 – 4 pm. For Grades 2 – IB. To be held in the Primary Art Room with Mrs. Cunningham. This after school activity is for boys and girls wishing to learn basic hand sewing and decorative stitching techniques. There will be an element of drawing as we learn how to develop design ideas from sketch to finished artwork. Students will make appliquéd skull and crossbones t-shirts, adorn clothing with decorative embroidery and learn how to turn drawings into textile pictures. Other projects will be to design and make soft toys, learn how to make a patchwork quilt, create decorative cushions and framed gifts. Students will also be introduced to fabric collages for greetings cards, decorative frames, fabric banners and textile bunting. All materials and equipment will be provided. Students are welcome to bring along additional fabrics, beads, buttons etc that they may wish to use. The cost is 300 EC. There is a limited of 10 students

Tennis: Beginners – 1 Hour Classes on Tuesday; Beginner to Intermediate or Thursday’s – Intermediate to Advance. Held at Temo Sports. The cost is $275.00 EC. Make payments to Island Academy. Please bring a can of balls. For interested parents, Samantha will transport students from the school for $30.00 per term, please pay Samantha directly for the transportation. If you would like more lessons per week, please contact Samantha Directly at 771-8549.

Guitar – Monday’s – 3 to 3:45 pm. This class is for beginners. No prior experience needed. You will learn all the basics in this class. Cost $260.00 EC. The class is open to students in Grade 3 – 5. Ms. Lewis is offering this class and requires a minimum of 6 students. Required Materials: Guitar, replacement strings (if available), soft cloth (for cleaning instrument), tuner (if available), folder to hold music in.

Stage 1 Drama Club is a club working with students to develop skills for life through creative programmes. The club will provide a wide range of activities which are complimentary, but additional to the school curriculum. Classes will allow each student to develop at their own pace, particularly acknowledging their individual personalities. It is important that each student feels comfortable, confident and happy within their own capabilities. At first some may think, “I can’t do this”, only to realize later that they can! Please note that the skills the students will learn are not just for performing. They develop, amongst other things, greater confidence, self-reliance and self-esteem. The class will be on Fridays from 3 to 4:00 for grade 5 and up. Cost is $260.00 EC.

Drum Workshop
– Come and make some noise. Every Tuesday’s from 3 to 4 pm. The class includes your own drumming kit to keep. The only thing you need to bring is your enthusiasm. The cost is $300 EC. Mr. Mark Smith will be teaching this class in the music room. For Grade 5 - 9. You will learn basic skills of rhythm and percussion and tuning. Maximum number of 10.

Scrapbooking – What a great way to remember your friends and family. Scrapbooking is a fun and exciting way to do this. All you need to bring is your photo’s, everything else is provided. The class is limited to 12 students. The class is open to Grade 3 – IB. Classes to be held on Thursday’s from 3 to 4 pm. Cost is $300.00.

Sailing – Sailing is held on Wednesdays at the Antigua Yacht Club from 3:30 to 5:30 pm. Children must be 8yrs and up. The cost is $320 EC. Class size is limited to 15 students. Learn to sail and love the sea. We are looking for parent volunteers to assist with the transportation from the school to the Yacht club. Please let the front office know if you are able to assist as in prior years. Thanks!

Homework Club – the school is offering a supervised homework club for all grades. The students will be required to stay in the designated classroom from 3 to 4 pm doing homework/working on projects or reading. This Club is not designed for specific subjects as the teacher may not be able to answer all homework questions. They will not be allowed to run around. The cost for the term for one day is $130.00 for the full term ( $13.00 per week).

Spanish 101 for Adults – Learn to speak Spanish. The school is pleased to offer spanish class for adults. The course will be held on Tuesday afternoon from 3 to 4 pm. Mr. Covo Grandes will be the teacher. The cost is $260.00 EC. Space is limited to 12 adults.

Primary Soccer Club - Learn to play soccer in a friendly environment. Mr. Covo Grandes will be teaching the kids the basic skills needed and friendly games of soccer. This club is open to both boys and girls. For Grades 1 – 3 the club will be from 3 – 3:45 on Thursdays. For Grades 4 – 6 the club will be from 3 to 4 pm on Friday’s. Cost is $230.00 EC

Secondary Soccer Club – Open to Grade 7 – IB. Learn new skills and play 5 a side games. On Tuesdays from 3 to 4 boys only. If you have any questions, please see Mr. Norton. Cost is $230.00 EC.

Secondary Basketball – For Grades 7- IB Girls on Wed. from 3 to 4 pm and for boys on Thursdays from 3 to 4 pm. Mr. Randall will be offering this class. The cost is $230.00

Sports Skills – For Girls grade 7 – 11 on Monday’s from 3 to 4 pm. The program will focus on developing a wide variety of sports skills using drills and game play. There will also be a fitness component. The cost will be $230.00 EC for the term. This class is offered by Mr. Mark Mitchell.

Model United Nations: Become a member of a Model United Nations delegation and start finding solutions to the world's most pressing problems! Join the network of students doing United Nations simulations around the world. The MUN club engages in an authentic simulation of the United Nations system by modeling the UN system and learning the skills of debate, compromise, conflict resolution and negotiation. Have fun learning about the workings of world diplomacy through the lens of current events. For Grades 7– 12. Wednesdays from 3 to 4 pm The cost is $260.00. Minimum 8 students needed.
