BOARD OF DIRECTORS/GOVERNORS
The Board of Directors at Island Academy is dedicated to creating the best international school in the Caribbean. Our members are drawn from many different vocations and industries, and are all respected contributors to the community.
Island Academy's Board of Directors are volunteers who freely donate their time to ensure the vision of our school.
PAUL SUDOLSKI, Chairman/Treasurer
Paul Sudokski is currently a director and consultant to a company in the online industry in Antigua. Prior to this position, he started an online ecash processing businesses, which lead him to his current position in the industry. Before moving to full time Antigua ten years ago, he lived in Canada, holding various positions in industry, including two years organizing and operating an online ecash processing business, three years as CEO of a merchant banking business, five years as the CFO/CEO of a publically held conglomerate and three years as a partner in a leveraged buyout boutique. During this period, he also held several board positions in Canadian public companies. Between 1979 and 2006, he was Managing Director of Brysons, one of Antigua's premier companies. He is a chartered account by profession, having articled and received his degree in 1971 with Deloitte Touche in Canada where he remained until 1978.
IAN FRASER, Vice-Chair
Ian Fraser is a graduate of Imperial College, London, where he obtained a B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering. He obtained articles from the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales while working for Arthur Andersen & Co. Since returning to Antigua in 1992, Ian has worked in the tourism industry, responsible for the development of Redcliffe Quay, Cocos Hotel, Cocobay Resort, Coconut Beach Resort, and NonSuch Bay Resort. He is the chairman of the Antigua & Barbuda Hotel & Tourism Association and serves on the boards of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority, Mill Reef Club, the Antigua Yacht Club and several other companies.
BERNADETTE SHERMAN, Secretary
Bernadette Sherman was born in Trinidad but has lived in Antigua since the age of four. She holds an Associate of Science degree in Psychology from Beirut University College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a minor in Political Studies from Oregon State University. At present she is shareholder and director of three restaurants in Antigua, as well as Next Trading Company, all the Big Banana Group of Companies. She is one of the founding members of Island Academy.
DR. PETER SWANN
Peter Swann received his primary education as a scholarship student at Dulwich College in London, England. After obtaining a PhD from Cambridge University in 1960, he worked at U.S. Steel, then at the University of Gottingen, Germany, and finally as a full professor at the University of London. He has published over sixty scientific papers and was awarded eight medals and prizes, including the prestigious Beilby Gold medal of the Royal Chemical Society and the Robert Lansing Hardy Gold Medal of the American Institute of Metallurgical Engineers. In 1978 he resigned from his Chair at the University of London to become CEO of Gatan Inc. Under his direction Gatan became a worldwide leader in the design and manufacture of scientific instruments in the field of electron microscopy and analysis. He retired from business in 1995 and made his home on Jumby Bay Island, Antigua. From 1993 to 1998, he was Chairman of the Board of Jumby Bay Island Company and from 2001 to 2009, he was Chairman of the Board of Island Academy.
KAYE McDONALD
Kaye McDonald holds a B.A. in Political Science from Florida International University and is a certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist. She is a former banker who spent eight years with one of Antigua and Barbuda's leading financial conglomerates. Currently she is the Director of Gaming with the Financial Services Regulatory Commission, with primary responsibility for the administration of the gaming division, developing a policy framework for the effective licensing, regulation and supervision of international gaming companies in accordance with acceptable international standards and best practices.
SHARON CORT-THIBOU
Sharon is an Attorney-at-Law practising in Antigua and Barbuda and
a partner in the firm Cort & Cort, Attorneys-at-law, Antigua. In
addition to her Bachelor of Law's degree obtained from the University
of Westminster, London, England and her Master of Law's degree from
University College London, she holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from
Saint Mary’s University, Nova Scotia, Canada. Sharon also qualified
as a Barrister in England and Wales and has also been called to the
Bar in Trinidad and Tobago, Antigua and Barbuda and the British Virgin
Islands. She is a member of the Antigua and Barbuda Tax Appeal Board
and the St. John Association Board.
ANNE HAMILTON
Anne Hamilton is a recognized highly active philanthropist and volunteer
whose contributions have profoundly benefited children, education, arts
and culture, animals and countless other worthwhile causes.
A devoted mother of five, Mrs. Hamilton, her husband Matt and their
family reside in Bryn Mawr, PA. She is a 1974 graduate of Agnes Irwin
School and a 1978 graduate of Boston University.
Mrs. Hamilton has received many honors for her tireless efforts, including
the Agnes Irwin School Alumnae Award in 1999, Philadelphia Magazine’s
Volunteer of the Year Award in 2001, The Heart of Philadelphia Award
in 2002, and Fundraising Volunteer of the Year Award in 2007 from the
Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has also received the
Liberty Award on 2008 from the National Liberty Museum and the Great
Friend to Kids Lifetime Achievement Award from the Please Touch Museum
in 2009.
ALEX PORTMAN
MITZI ALLEN
Mitzi Allen has been working in the media for the past twenty-eight years, both as a broadcast journalist and as a film and television producer. Her career began in Toronto, Canada, and continued in Antigua and Barbuda. She is the co-founder of an independent film and television production company, HAMA Productions. She is the producer of four feature films, as welll as a number of television programmes and documentaries on social and environmental issues, which are distributed throughout the Caribbean and North America. She has also conducted master classes on producing and feature filmmaking on a shoestring budget, most notably at Ithaca College, Itaca, NY, and with Youth Department in the Ministry of Education in Antigua and Barbuda. She is the host of the LIVE UP show, a regional Caribbean television programme that looks at HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean.
TERRY BROWN
Terry C. Brown is currently the Managing Director of Island Provision Group of Companies, which comprises of Island Provision Food Distribution, Best Cellars Wines and Spirits, Gourmet Basket Supermarket and Casa Antigua Limited. He was previously the General Manager for KFC Antigua and also work as the Financial Controller for Big Banana Group for a number of years. He graduated from Jennings Secondary School in 1989 before earning his Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Business Administration with a minor in Economics from John Brown University in Arkansas, US, in 1994. Terry is a former member of the Antigua and Barbuda National Football team. He currently lives in Old Road Village, Antigua, with his wife Joy-ann and son Joshua.
