PIN 24 - Friday March 12th 2010

Our mission is to offer a world-class education, empowering each learner by providing a life experience that inspires the development of the whole child within a multicultural environment, enabling students to embrace the diversity of our community both locally and globally. We also seek to build a culture within which every parent, child and teacher can work together to achieve mutual respect and productive partnerships.

A reminder to all parents that the International Baccalaureate (I.B.) Attitude for this Month is

Calling Island Academy: The School Phone number to reach the front desk is 460 1094.

A Night at the Oscars Gala: The Gala raised just over $71,000 US dollars last weekend, a fantastic sum which will be a big boost to Island Academy. We would like to thank everyone that helped out, as it took a large group many weeks to have this type of success. The evening was a fun and fabulous night for everyone. There was plenty to drink, and an unbelievable buffet that included a chocolate fountain! There were even life-size Oscars on display. We had a live auction, silent auction, the "wish list" book and then a new event that allowed people just to give a donation as recognition of their support for IA. The evening ended with "Itchy Feet" playing and everyone was up and dancing. All in all the night was a spectacular success- continuing a year that started well and continues to get better and better.

Special early dismissal pick up for Elementary grades k to 3 on Wednesday, March 17th: Due to the early evening performance of "BUGZ" on Wednesday the 17th, we are sending home all Kinder through 3rd grade students at 12:30pm next Wednesday, right after lunch.
All other students will have their regular dismissal at 2:50, and the buses will run their regular routes at the end of the school day.
Therefore all parents are reminded in grades K through 3 to be at school next Wednesday at 12:30pm for a special "BUGZ" early dismissal. If you signed up for the BBQ, you should arrive back at school at 4:30pm and to get ready for the play, or arrive at 5:15pm if you are not attending the BBQ.
Thank you all for your cooperation, and we are sure that the play will be a spectacular success!

SPRING BREAK1/2 day camp offering- second note: Mr. Norton and Mrs. Mendoza have sent home an information letter about a new offering from Island Academy. Week one will run Monday 22nd March – Friday 26th March, while week two will be four days and run Monday 29th March – Thursday 1st April. The cost will be: Week 1 $250 EC per child; Week 2 $200 EC per child. A range of activities will include but not be limited to sports, games, reading, computers and crafts. We ask that parents who are interested already please email or call Ms. Matthew at the front desk at the school as soon as possible, and then return A.S.A.P. the forms as specific letters will be sent home with students from 1st through 8th grades early next week.
As a school we hope that this offering can further the services provided by our staff to your children.

BUGZ is on the way!: The Elementary Musical will be on March 17th. We are excited about the play, and the children and staff and a group of parents are hard at work preparing for the 17th.

IA Movie Night: The grade 9 and 10 students are raising money to fund a “Health and Wellness” magazine as their entry in an island wide contest. To fund their project they sponsored a movie night on Friday, March 11th. The movie is “Up!” and all proceeds go towards paying for the student project. Great job Mr. Mitchell and grades 9 and 10.

Parent Organization General Meeting a huge success: The Parents Organization meeting on March 11th was attended by over 15 families. The meeting focused on a specific agenda of items such as a P.O. financial report; activities done so far this year to support the school; plans for reorganization of the PO to include all school input and activities. The PO will also decide the best way to have official parent representatives while still maintaining their open arms policy of having any parent help at any time with all PO events and activities. Lou Tubbs graciously accepted to head up the organization for the rest of thus school year, in anticipation of school wide elections for various leadership positions in September.

It continues to be my pleasure to serve the school as your Headmaster.

Sincerely, Jim Pastore
